Runtime error in Adobe Photoshop

Issue

When you start Photoshop Elements Editor, the startup screen and interface appear, but a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error occurs.

Solution 1: Re-create the MediaDatabase.db3 file

Although a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error can occur in any application for many different reasons, one known cause is the MediaDatabase is corrupted. MediaDatabase tracks content and effects for Photoshop Elements Editor. Rebuilding this database can repair this error.
  1. Make sure Photoshop Elements Editor is fully closed and the error no longer appears on screen. Navigate to:
    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_us\
    • Windows Vista/7: C:\Program Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_us\
  2. Rename the file MediaDatabase.db3 to MediaDatabase.old.
  3. Relaunch Photoshop Elements Editor. A "Building Contents and Effects" progress bar appears, as your MediaDatabase.db3 file is re-created. Wait for this process to finish; it can take several minutes.

Solution 2: General troubleshooting

If rebuilding the MediaDatabase did not fix the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error, there is a different cause to the issue. Follow the steps for general troubleshooting in the following documents to resolve other common causes of this error:
